The iPad At Work: Coding

I wrote an article a while ago called The iPad Works that discusses how the iPad is a great computer for getting work done. Since writing that, I’ve read several posts and articles from others about how they are getting work done with their iPads, most recently this post from Denny. This inspired me to write more about working on the iPad. I’ve been doing something new with my iPad recently and thought I’d share how that’s working.

Apple Watch as Travel Companion

I recently took a month-long trip to Europe. Before the trip, I wrote about my intention to leave my iPad behind (a first!) and travel only with my iPhone. However, I failed to mention another piece of technology I planned to take: my Apple Watch. While I didn’t give it much thought at the time, it turned out to be a wonderful, and useful, travel companion.

On Travel and Writing

I just returned from a month-long trip to Europe. Before I left, I had decided to leave my iPad at home and only bring my iPhone for computing tasks. As I recently started blogging and writing again, I wanted to make sure I was able to keep at it while on this trip. To help, I bought a travel keyboard so that I could use my iPhone as my writing machine. It seemed like a great plan.

iPad Display Zoom

I recently read a good post from Brandon over at ibmacin.com about how he chose which size iPad to use. It not only had some good things to think about when picking a size, but it was also a good reminder about how versatile the iPad is. (For an even more in-depth look at versatility, check out Denny’s post here).

Brandon’s post mentioned the Display Zoom setting for M1-powered (and later) iPads. I had briefly looked at this back when it was introduced in iPadOS 16, but didn’t really spend any time with it. After reading Brandon’s post, I decided to give it a try.

The iPad Works

While sitting on an airplane during a recent trip, I looked around and noticed five people nearby using iPads, not including me. This got me thinking about some articles I’ve read recently that call into question the usefulness or even the future of the iPad. These types of articles seem to pop up more this time of year as we wait for the latest updates from Apple and the tech news is slow.

That Software Bug

I’ve got that software bug again. I’m not talking about a software defect that drives us all crazy. No, I’m talking about the strong desire to write software. I wrote recently about how I had decided to stop working on software and focus on writing. I did that and have enjoyed it, but almost every day I’ve still been thinking about software. About finishing the app I started last year. About new apps I could write. About new ways to solve problems I’ve come across. And on and on and on. What does it mean?

iPad Life: Writing

I’ve been using the iPad as my only computer for the past few months and it’s been great. I thought I’d share how I’m using it to do all my writing, which includes this blog, my Tech Talk blog, and a novel I’ve been working on. I’ll also talk a bit about the process I use to write.
